Cheap land, anyone? For $60k this triangle of grass in Neutral Bay could be yours

Apparently it presents “unique opportunities” to the savvy buyer.

Location-wise, it's a banger. And the price guide of around $60,000 puts it within reach of many.

But what would you do with it?

A triangular patch of turf at 9 Anderson Street in Neutral Bay is surely one of the strangest properties to be offered on the North Shore in recent times.

At first we thought it was an April Fool's Day joke, particularly given the PR guff painted it as having "untapped potential" and creating "unique opportunities". Say what now?

The 31-square-metre "block" is sandwiched between a tennis centre and a private residence.

Although it is grassed and empty now, save for a chunky electricity box, Google Street View shows that previously it housed what appeared to be a larger electricity facility, with a brick wall, wooden gates and multiple signs warning of danger within.

There is barely room to swing a cat, but 31 square metres is 31 square metres, so it has to be useful for something. But what?

Perhaps there are some clues in the zoning. The "block" is zoned RE2 - Private Recreation, which rules out building Sydney's smallest home or a private viewing tower for the tennis. And no pitching a tent and sticking it on Airbnb.

According to North Sydney Council the land can be used for private open space or recreational purposes.

Permitted "with consent" on such blocks are aquaculture, building and business identification signs, community facilities, kiosks, indoor recreation facilities and registered clubs.
