Our guide to the best pizza on the North Shore

Whether you're looking for a quick slice or an authentic Neopolitian effort, pizza is always a good option.

Whether you’re settling down with the family for the night in front of a movie or on the hunt for the perfect authentic Italian pizza, there’s no shortage of great locations on the North Shore.

Here’s our growing (and constantly updated!) list of pizza joints across the northern suburbs of Sydney.

Giovanni’s

437a Miller Street, Cammeray

521 Military Road, Mosman

Giovanni’s Pizza is a small, popular pizza joint that features a wide variety of pizza options. From classic favourites like BBQ chicken, capricciosa and diavola, to more creative choices like prawn, pumpkin and zucchini, there’s something to suit every taste. The potato and sausage pizza is also a standout, and a must-try.

To avoid long waits, it’s best to order before 6pm or earlier and pick up your pizza. For dessert, Giovanni’s serves chocolate mousse and tiramisu, the perfect sweet treat to end the meal.

Capo Pizza

100 Bay Road, Waverton

Capo Pizza is quickly becoming a go-to destination for Italian pizza lovers in Sydney. Keep an eye out for their monthly specials, ranging from exotic and experimental pizzas to trustworthy calzone. Don’t miss the Italian garlic and herb focaccia bread, which pairs perfectly with any pizza.

For dessert, Capo Pizza offers spumone, a layered dessert with chocolate, hazelnut and cassata gelato, and the cassata siciliana, a Sicilian gelato sponge cake. For those with a sweet tooth, their gelato options are great, with flavours like salted caramel, cookies and creak, pistachio, and tiramisu.

Johnny Gio’s Pizza Neutral Bay

Shop 1/185 Military Rd, Neutral Bay

This popular takeaway-only spot is a haven for pizza lovers. Johnny Gio’s has rapidly spread across Sydney over the last two years, offering unique specials like their Johnny Vodka (vodka sauce, loaded mozzarella, pepperoni and parmigiano), and their Johnny Squirrel (pomodoro, speck, prawn, and chilli).

Their El Diablo pizza is perfect for spice-lovers. With the bonus of chilli oil to spice up every bite, it’s an experience like no other.

While the takeaway-only policy may be a downside for some, their food quality and customer service make it worth the visit.

Zapparelli’s Pizza

158 Burns Bay Rd, Lane Cove

Zapparelli’s Pizza has been serving up delicious pizza since 1988. For those after an authentic pizza experience without the hefty price tag of Italian restaurants, Zapparelli’s is the place to go.

The Bella Pizza is the ideal choice for anyone after a classic vegetarian pizza, while their garlic pizza is also a favourite among regulars. They offer three different pizza sizes (small, medium, and large), and offer small tubs of gelato for a sweet after-dinner treat. For those looking to bring their own wine, there is a $3 corkage fee per person.

Pizza Luna

4/44 Hampden Rd, Artarmon

Pizza Luna offers a wide variety of traditional and gourmet pizzas that will satisfy any craving. From classic margherita and pepperoni to gourmet options like Hot Fire, Basturma, Smoked Salmon and Pesto Vegetarian, there's something for everyone.

For a lighter option, try their Season, Greek and Rocket salads. Pizza Luna is open 6 days a week, closed on Tuesdays, with varying hours from 4:45pm-8pm, or 5:30pm-8:30pm.

Via Napoli

141 Longueville Road, Lane Cove

An institution to Lane Cove locals for more than a decade, Via Napoli has spread all across Sydney. This quaint, tight and buzzing corner spot — just out on the outskirts of the main shopping district in Lane Cove — will leave you satisfied, happy, and full of authentic Neopolitian pizza. Via Napoli’s owner, Luigi Esposito, has worked at pizzerias all over Naples and Europe and has years of experience. He even created his own single origin flour!

Borruso’s Pizza & Pasta

1/65 Strathallen Avenue, Northbridge

83 Willoughby Road, Crows Nest

For years, Borruso’s kept Northbridge families humming with delicious, woodfired pizza. More recently, another location opened on the main strip in Crows Nest. With a wide range of toppings, a vegan menu, and one of the best gluten free bases on the North Shore, Borruso’s excels with both its food and friendly service.
