The best cheap eats under $15 in Sydney's lower north shore

From Italian institutions to the best bibimbap around. We've got you covered.

It’s hard to find a decent lunch for under $15 in this economy, but as a local going on a decade now who’s had to find ways to economise (on cost, not taste), here’s a solid shortlist of favourites I’m willing to share.

This is our growing list of $15 bargains across the lower north shore. Got a suggestion? Let us know and send an email to [email protected]

A treasured owner-operated local institution with a great range of home-made Italian food and coffee, including focaccias and paninis for under $15. Sit outside and soak up the sun and the local talk.

The menu here is vast, customisable, and fresh, but the popular favourite here is the roast pork roll for $12.50. Get it cut in half so that the top isn’t peeking out of the bag, tempting the crime syndicate of local magpies nearby.

Jingogae, North Sydney

Authentic, high-quality Korean food in an endearingly no-frills establishment, most items here on the lunch menu are under $15 and soft drinks are an incredible $3. I recommend the Bibimbap.

Split a large pizza between two at this kitschy Italian institution for under $15 each. Hot tip: know how to pronounce what you’re ordering, it will be appreciated, even if you butcher it.

Fishbowl, Crows Nest

I don’t generally like to recommend chain restaurants over owner-operated eateries, but I’ll be damned if the Nori Caesar Bowl isn’t great value for money at $13.90 for all that protein, nutrition and flavour.

Ken’s Kissa, Neutral Bay

With many items $15 or under, the menu here is a wonder and everything is made with care for presentation by the lovely staff. Ken’s bacon and egg roll, at $12, is a total umami delight.

I feel sorry for myself that I didn’t know about this until recently. You’ll find an eclectic and global range of lunch items here, including cheeses and fresh flat bread, well under $15. You can head down Monday - Friday, from 8:30am - 5pm, and also order online with click and collect available.

Maggio’s Cafe Cammeray

Sometimes a smoothie counts as a meal. With a secret ingredient it took me a while to guess, you’ll be as addicted as I am to Maggios’ banana smoothies for $8.50 a pop. Grab a perugini pastry for $8.50 if you’re still hungry.
